Wedding ceremonies are beautiful, meaningful events, but everyone knows the reception is where the real party starts. It's impossible to have a good party without music, which means you need a wedding DJ to perform at your reception. A DJ will expertly curate a playlist to celebrate the union of you and your spouse. When choosing a DJ for your reception, you must be well-informed. Asking questions will allow you to learn everything you need to know. Here are three questions you should ask your wedding DJ:

1. Do they provide their own equipment?

Some DJs prefer to use their equipment since they know exactly how it will perform in any given situation. Others prefer to travel light and use the sound system provided by the venue. If you choose a reception venue without a sound system included, you'll need to ask your DJ if they provide their own equipment. If the answer is no, you need to know in advance so you can rent the appropriate sound equipment.

2. How far are they willing to travel?

Some couples choose to have their wedding reception somewhere off the beaten path. The seclusion of a remote venue can be very romantic. However, it may be difficult for some of your vendors to get there. When booking a DJ, it's ideal to already have a venue in mind. Ask your DJ how far they're willing to travel. Some wedding DJs prefer to only perform at gigs close to their home base, so if you're having a wedding out of the city, you may need to find a DJ who's willing to go for a drive.

3. Can you add hours on the day of the event?

With any luck, your wedding reception will be a hit. If the big day arrives and everyone is having fun, you may not want the dance party to end. If there's a possibility you'd like to extend the wedding reception at the last minute, find out if that's a possibility. Some wedding DJs are happy to stay for an additional hour or two as long as they can bill at their normal rate. Other DJs have strict schedules and will not tolerate last-minute changes. If flexibility is important to you, it may be worthwhile to find a DJ who can be flexible as well.

If you ask your wedding DJ these questions, you'll have a better idea about the possibilities for your wedding reception entertainment. Gathering all the necessary information and planning accordingly will allow you to host a great reception.
